By: By Amanda Morgan

HUNTSVILLE —     Your grandma called!! She wants her light-up, skating-kitty-with-small-bells-sewn-all-over-it Christmas sweater back! If this sounds familiar to you, you (and so many other perfectly fashionable people) have probably been sucked into the annual drudge of holiday party attire, and coming out a frumpy mess. To avoid this sort of banter about your winter outfits, pull up a chair, start the coco, grab a blanket and cozy up to this season’s most fabulous (and totally fashionable) winter wear.

The Art of Flying

By: Ashley Pauley

HUNTSVILLE —     Not only super heroes are flying anymore. Kinetic Disruption, the parkour and freerunning club at SHSU, is a group of students performing moves that look similar to those in the Matrix and Spiderman.  If you haven’t seen them performing or practicing their moves you are missing out, it’s amazing.

Defying the odds…Local resident beats breast cancer and strives to be an advocate

By: By Ashley Pauley

HUNTSVILLE — ITZ sits down with a local Breast Cancer Survivor.
Interviewer: Ashley Pauley

Thank you for taking the time to do this interview and discuss your experience with breast cancer. Can you give us a brief biography of yourself?
I am Janet King; I am 59 years old.  And when I was 42, I developed breast cancer. I found it myself through self examination and I went to the doctor and they did a lumpectomy. From there they found out it was indeed cancer. And from there I went to John Sealy Hospital in Galveston and they did a modified mastectomy. They got all the cancer and it will be 15 years November the 21st that I will be cancer free. Most important thing that I could tell anyone is to pay attention to your body. You will be the first one to notice it before any doctor will, because they will see what is unusual. Another thing about me is that I have three children and seven grandchildren ages from 3 to almost 16! Two of those are almost 16 so, (I have) a very busy life.
What age do you suggest that women start self-checking?
That depends if they have family history. They always say about 10 years prior to the diagnosis. I was 42 so at 32 my daughters need to start checking. It’s your body; we have to take charge of our own health.

2011 Sam Houston Football Preview

By: Brandon Scott

Huntsville — It’s not as easy to be skeptic of the Sam Houston State football team this year. The Bearkats no longer have a first year head coach or rookie playmakers on both sides of the ball.
There’s a certain maturity and comfort level with this team that seems to be worth at least one or two more victories this season, given everything goes as planned. The Kats dropped only one game at Bowers last year – against McNeese St., and if you remember, Seth Patterson actually caught the game winning touchdown that was ruled incomplete on the field.
