At the Movies…April 2012

By: Matthew Jackson

It’s not quite blockbuster season, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a good time at your local theater this month. Take a look at what the cinemas have to offer throughout April.

Titanic 3D
April 4

James Cameron’s megablockbuster historical epic returns to theaters for a special 3D re-release this month. If you absolutely loved the first film, drop a little extra cash to see it again in a new format. Otherwise, save your money for the new movies.

Iron Sky
April 4

It might be a little hard to find, but if you’re a fan of sci-fi, this movie is something you’ll want to see. The premise? That since the end of World War II the Nazis have had a secret base on the surface of the Moon, and they’re just waiting for their chance to strike back.

American Reunion
April 6

Yes, it’s really happening. The entire original cast of American Pie is back for a fourth film that reunites them as adults after high school, and college and living in the real world. Based on the trailer, it looks like this flick might actually live up to the original, but even if it doesn’t it’ll be nice to see the gang back together.

The Cabin in the Woods
April 13

Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Avengers director Joss Whedon and Cloverfield writer Drew Goddard team up for this haunted house movie with a twist. It’s already got loads of early acclaim. All that’s left is for you to see it.

Lockout
April 13

Another can’t-miss flick for sci-fi fans, this one stars Guy Pearce as a roguish government agent assigned to rescue the President’s daughter from a space prison that’s been taken over by the inmates. If the early footage coming out of this one is any indication, you’d be crazy not to check it out.

The Three Stooges
April 13

The Farrelly Brothers have been hailed as comedy geniuses thanks to their work on films like There’s Something About Mary and Dumb and Dumber. This time they’re rebooting The Three Stooges franchise…Yeah, I’m not happy either.

The Lucky One
April 20

Zac Efron stars in this adaptation of yet another romantic Nicholas Sparks novel. Ladies, this one’s most definitely for you.

The Five-Year Engagement
April 27

Writer/Director Nicholas Stoller and star Jason Segel re-team for another comedy in the vein of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, the story of a couple (Segel and Emily Blunt) whose relationship is on the rocks thanks to continuous delays of their wedding.

Safe
April 27

It’s a Jason Statham action movie. That’s all you need to know.

The Raven
April 27

John Cusack stars in this eerie story of writer Edgar Allan Poe’s quest to solve a series of murders based on his own writings. Needless to say, it’s not based on a true story, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be fun.

The Priates! Band of Misfits
April 27

Aardman Animation, the company that brought us Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run, return to stop-motion animation with a story of hilarious pirates. That’s enough to get me to the theater.
